Retailers have questions. Debby has answers.
Greetings!
I thought that I post some"Q & A"s today since I receive a number of questions during my TeleTrainings each week. This seems to be a good place to post my responses. If you are a retailer and have a merchandising or marketing question within the natural products industry please send it (or them) my way either through my website (www.askDebby.com) or responding to postings on my blog.

What to do when customers grab handfuls of "complimentary" magazines just for the coupons?
ANSWER
In this situation I would move the magazines under the check out counter, customer service area, cafe checkout, or where ever you have an "attended" area for distribution. I would have some signs around my store that mentions "Ask for your Free Magazine" and maybe add "this months article or features are...".
Each customer can be asked if they've received their magazine this month. This will help in two ways:
1) Create an uncomfortable situation for someone who might being trying to take advantage
2) Offer a magazine to someone who might not have thought to pick one up at checkout.
Educational magazines can be used in so many positive ways within you marketing strategy. I encourage you to be creative with your magazine distribution as well as how you use them to help build sales including staff training. Ask your magazine sales rep to help you with some creative ideas. They have a ton of ideas and I'm sure would be happy to help!

I attended your TeleTraining titled "Creating Your Own Private Label Opportunities" yesterday sponsored by ALL-ONE and I found the information on your website about the little round labels that you have been helping retailers with for years. I didn't understand the pricing per thousand. Would you please explain?

ANSWER
Sorry for the confusion. I work to get a group of retailers together so that we can add the total quantity purchase together and take advantage of a "shared' per thousand savings. Example if we had 6 retailers purchasing 25,000 stickers each (usual first time order for a store under 10,000 square feet) we would collectively have an order for 150,000 labels and the shared cost would be $6.35 per thousand plus the onetime setup and shipping fees applicable. Prices are subject to change, but I also get a quote to you when we get ready to sign on the line.
Until next tine, here's wishing you a great day,
Debby
